KISS the FROG is a design and make studio dedicated to giving fashion and textiles a second life. We specialise in design, pattern drafting, garment construction, repurposing, up-cycling, alterations, and repairs—transforming fashion garments and home textiles into something new and meaningful. Alongside our bespoke services, we offer our own collection of fashion garments, accessories, soft furnishings, and up-cycled pieces, all sold under the KISS the FROG label.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We consciously source pre-loved materials, end-of-line deadstock fabrics, and garments to minimise our environmental impact and reduce waste. By embracing slow fashion, we aim to challenge the throwaway culture of fast fashion, helping to divert textiles from landfill and promoting a more thoughtful approach to wardrobe choices.
What We Do
Who We Are
KISS the FROG was founded by Penny Earl, a fashion designer with an extensive background in design, pattern cutting, and garment construction. Penny trained at the prestigious Royal College of Art in London, earning a Master’s Degree in Fashion Design. Over seven years, she honed her skills in pattern drafting, woven and knitted garment construction, fashion illustration, and concept-to-catwalk design. Her career has taken her across the globe, working in London, India, Hong Kong, China, the Netherlands, and Portugal as a womenswear and childrenswear designer, specialising in fine gauge, fully fashioned knitwear. In 2009, she brought her expertise to New Zealand, where KISS the FROG was born.
Sewing
Lessons
With over seven years of formal training in garment construction, we offer sewing lessons tailored to all skill levels—from absolute beginners to advanced sewists looking to refine their technique.
Lesson Options:

One-on-One Lessons: Ideal for beginners or those seeking personalised guidance – $40 per hour

Advanced Small Groups: Designed for more experienced sewers, with a maximum of 3 per group – $25 per person
Facilities & Equipment:
Students have access to a wide range of machinery, including:

Domestic sewing machines, overlockers, and cover stitchers

Semi-industrial and industrial sewing machines and overlockers

Industrial steam iron with suction board

Domestic irons also available
You're also welcome to bring your own sewing machine if preferred.
Whether you're learning to sew for the first time or working on complex garments, these lessons offer a supportive, well-equipped environment to help you build your skills and confidence.
